About GB Access

Phase 1 - In The Beginning

GB Access was formed in 1989 with the objective of providing an installation and maintenance service to owners and operators of rack and pinion driven goods only hoists and goods/passenger construction hoists. After five years, and having established as an excellent service provider, a major decision was made.

Phase 2 - Expansion

1994 saw the next step in the growth of the company. The natural expansion into rental of rack and pinion driven construction hoists took place. Through various acquisitions the stock of hoists was built into an extensive hire fleet and we were well on our way to establishing ourselves as a major player in the construction hoist hire industry. But it didn’t stop there.

Phase 3 - New Premises

1997 saw the relocation into larger premises in Oundle with increased workshop, office and yard space. Since 1998 the facilities at the offices and yard have been continuously expanded and improved, with staffing levels increased to satisfy a growing market and take the company forward.

In supplying our customers' needs we have been working with Alimak and Stros to produce new hoists, including a passenger hoist with a 6.2m long cage!

Phase 4 – Recession

Like all companies associated with the construction industry, the recession of 2008 reduced the demand for our equipment and services. However, due to our policy of owning our hoist fleet, premises and vehicles, we fared better than many hoist rental companies who disappeared from the market.

Phase 5 – Today

The construction industry – particularly high rise buildings and towers – is now responding to a greatly improved market and GB Access is continuing to be the market leader for rental construction hoists. We are increasing our workforce, expanding facilities and have purchased additional hoists to add to our extensive rental fleet which now consists of:

- 223 Passenger / Goods Hoists
- 54 Goods Only Hoists
- 25 Beam Hoists

GB Access' transport fleet now consists of two 32 tonne, 8 wheel construction chassis rigid lorries - both fitted with Palfinger lorry mounted cranes, and one pickup making small deliveries and collections. Over 30 service vehicles enable us to get our site engineers and supervisors to site efficiently, providing excellent on-site services.
